Welcome to the Stapleford Miniature Railway
The 10 ¼” SMR is based in Stapleford Park near Melton Mowbray
Maintained and operated by the “Friends of the Stapleford Miniature Railway”
With nearly 2 mile of scenic track, the one fifth scale SMR is home to the East African 31 class 2-8-4 oil burning loco, superb scale British LMS Jubilee, GWR Saint, the mighty NYC Niagara and NKP Berkshire American locos as well as the Curwen Warship Diesel and Curwen Atlantic.
The railway opens only on the dates shown below to the public at all other times we closed

As we have previously posted on our social media, extensive work is being undertaken on the tunnel cutting using both an external contractor and members of the FSMR to redress issues with the bank stability and drainage since it was last re profiled in 1995
. Unfortunately, a combination of very poor ground conditions and extensive rainfall through autumn and winter have delayed the project, and we have now taken the decision to extend the suspension of public operation of the railway further through the summer
This unfortunately means the railway will not be able to operate during the June 2026 event.
However, planning for the June miniature steam rally is well underway and we hope to expand attractions to accommodate for the railway not operating
We hope you will still be able to support the railway during this time and look forward to seeing you all in June
Foot note
The work being carried out both in the cutting and around the line replacing life expired wood with plastic sleepers and strengthening the riverside track bed, will future proof the railway from flood damage and deterioration of the track due to the changing climate and the increased winter rainfall being experienced
